Having never seen the comic, even that little bit of backstory helps. One thing that bugged me to no end was the super jump from one building to another in the opening scene, and then no one displaying that kind of super ability for the remainder of the film. It was decent summer fare, but would have tanked any other time of year.

You should read the comic book, not because it is any better, but because it offers history and perspective on how this movie came to be. I warn you though, the movie is not nearly so morally and socially reprehensible as the comic. What the comic does have to offer is an alternate plot line with some significantly interesting plot devices. In the comic, the assassin organization is actually just a division of one of several cabals of supervillians. The supervillians run the world, since they killed off all the superheroes in the 80's. Wesley still gets his killing practice in by visiting alternate dimensions where the superheroes are still alive - so he can kill them.

My expectations for Wanted were pretty low going in - I expected no coherence of plot or concept but lots of fun physics defying fight scenes. Sort of like Ultraviolet. Since my expectations were so very low, I was pleasantly surprised that the film made any effort at a story. I suppose I'm thirsty enough for content that I'm willing to drink the sand.

Bottom line is that I was entertained well enough for 110 minutes to merit the value of my $18.
